Gerana:
Pygmy woman of great beauty who lived in Egypt, or perhaps India. According to the myth, she despised the gods, and had a special aversion to Artemis and Hera. Gerana married a pygmy man called Nicodemos, and the couple had a son: Mopsos. Hera then turned Gerana into a stork, as a punishment for the woman's hatred of her. From then on, Gerana's only concern was to get her baby back. When the pygmies saw that the bird was trying to abduct Mopsos, they drove it away. From then on the storks and the pygmies were at constant war. It is from this myth we get the vision of the stork carrying a baby.
